Last year, more than 3,800 communities around the world participated in the third annual Green Apple Day of Service, generating school improvement projects in all 50 states and more than 40 countries. This effort is organized by the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council and I’m honored Leckie Elementary was selected as the site of this year’s flagship project. You may recall that Education Secretary Arne Duncan and his family attended the 2014 flagship Green Apple Day of Service project at Harriet Tubman Elementary School.
The volunteering at Leckie Elementary School (4201 Martin Luther King Jr Ave SW, Washington, DC 20032) will take place from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and bring together community members for a multitude of service activities. Volunteers will engage in a garden installation, maintenance of existing gardens, and more. Press will be invited to a short speaking program occurring at 12:00 pm, during which we hope you can offer brief remarks about the importance of volunteer engagement with local schools.
As you know, I care deeply about the entire Leckie Elementary School community, and I hope you can join us on the 26th in support of our commitment for the health and well-being of our students, teachers and staff. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like additional information. Please also feel free to reach out to Nate Allen at the U.S. Green Building Council (firstname.lastname@example.org/202.297.4116) for more background on Green Apple day of Service. We hope to see you next Saturday.
